Tigercub / Kagoule / The Tens [Live Review – The Boileroom, Guildford, 23/2/2015]

tigercubAlthough The Tens do possess plenty of heart, balls, and swagger, they’re currently still at the stage where their instruments own them, rather than the other way around. With more practice (as in “Spending more time beating the living crap out of their instruments” rather than “Studiously woodshedding a path to NoSoulVille”), the Tens will eventually become serious hard-rocking badasses. For now, though, they still need more time to develop.

Kagoule started off sounding like Placebo’s musical test-tube baby (a really cool move) before Read more…

The Kut – ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ [Review]

Artwork- The Kut RPSThe Kut have really won me over with their fresh and epic blend of assorted alt-rock stylings. When they hit their creative and original stride, the Kut look set to do some serious damage to any stuck-in-the-mud traditionalist’s sanity; but on this EP, the harsh truth is that Read more…

Red Seas Fire – ‘Blood Bank’ [Review]

red seas fire resolutionIn an age of unrelenting retromania, music desperately needs to move forward. In the rock and metal underground, we’re lucky to be a part of that movement in supporting bands like Red Seas Fire. Massively syncopated, sensorily hyperstimulating, and modern yet emotive and non-clinical, Blood Bank forms just one quarter of Read more…

Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith – ‘La La La’ (Princess Slayer Cover) [Review]

princess slayer press b&wI don’t normally review covers – but fuck me, this track is the perfect excuse to break the rules. Princess Slayer have been consistently bettering themselves since I first discovered them back in 2013 – and this version of La La La is still another positive step into the future for this Guildfordian EDM duo. Casey Lim’s vocal on this track is Read more…
