Few things in life feel as good as immersing yourself in something you love. Diving deep into awesomeness, allowing the world’s worries to slip away, replacing baggage with better things. Escaping.

Of all the modern world’s escape hatches, music remains one of the most enigmatic and rewarding options. However, everyday life offers few opportunities for extended periods of musical immersion. You can walk down the street under headphones, spend a lazy Sunday in the company of your sound system with the curtains drawn, or spend an evening at a top-class venue taking in a few bands – but for many music fanatics, such experiences still don’t go deep enough.

2000 Trees certainly does. Situated on an out-of-the-way Gloucestershire farm in a 3G-free dead zone, the Trees site is an ideal location for digital disconnection, and reconnection with simpler things. The feeling of sun on your face, wind on your skin, and pure live music vibrating every cell in your body.

Tellison [Interview]

Tellison

In the latest instalment of TMMP’s 2000 Trees Interview Overload, Tellison talk gigs on skateramps, DIY challenges, and the side effects of brown liquor consumption…

You’re playing a set at 2000 Trees this year. What thoughts and feelings are going through your heads right now?

Right now we’re juggling a thousand things in our heads. There’s a lot to sort out before releasing an album (our new one comes out this summer) and we’re a pretty DIY band, so we’re the ones doing the sorting. There are videos and singles and artwork and rehearsals and posters and sets and equipment repairs and vans and merchandise and websites and photos and a hundred other small bits to try to line up neatly so everything comes out on time and looking right.

It is exciting though, once you’ve waded through a thousand emails. 2000 Trees has been very good to us over the years, so we’re looking forward to Read more…

Jurassic Pop [Interview]

Jurassic Pop

This is the greatest interview you will ever read.

Your first hit is called Whoever You Are, Whoever You’re With, You Must ALWAYS Make Time To Get With Jeff. What makes Jeff Goldblum so damn sexy?

Just look at him! On a purely physical level it’s those smouldering good looks, his barely concealed chiselled chest and his devil-may-get-a-hard-on dress sense!

Dust below that exterior though, past the sizzling dry wit and humour and you get to what makes Jeff just irresistible. He’s SO. FUCKING. WISE. While everybody else dances around getting excited about playing God, he’s the man who dollops out the sense of cynicism – and ALL of the best lines. Life will find a way.

2000 Trees Festival are letting you loose on their stage this year. What can the curious expect from your set?

I know right? Idiots!

So basically Jurassic Pop pride ourselves on bringing a lo-fi set full of brazen dinosaur enthusiasm, pop hooks, and every lyric carefully crafted about Jurassic Park. There will be Read more…

Bridges [Interview]

Bridges

You learn a new thing every day – and BRIDGES are about to reveal something immense here. Consider me educated. Oh, and these guys are playing a festival too…

You’re due to play 2000 Trees this year. How’re you feeling about it?

Excited. We played last year on the Forest Stage, and it was awesome. We spent the day hanging out listening to music in hammocks and played a late night set to a really good crowd of people.

What can the curious expect from your set?

Fizzy Blood [Interview]

Fizzy Blood

When a brand new band pop up with an arena-ready release, they certainly grab your attention. Leeds-based horror rockers Fizzy Blood have done that – and on the back of new EP Feast, they’re set to do much, much more. TMMP caught up with the band to discuss the respectable story behind that quirky monicker, the band’s origin story, and the making of an EP you need to hear…

This first question is really bugging me: Is your band named after Jamie Lenman’s song, Fizzy Blood?

In short: yes. Ben and Paul are heavily influenced by Reuben and Lenman’s work, so when they formed the band and were spitballing names, as soon as Fizzy Blood was mentioned it just clicked.

As well as a nice little way to pay homage to one of our favourite songwriters, it’s also pretty cool – right?

Your new EP Feast is out now. How’re you feeling about it? Read more…

Fizzy Blood – ‘Feast’ [Review]

Fizzy Blood

Opening with eerie arpeggios reminiscent of Soundgarden at their best and tangentially kicking into a fat, strutting vintage-modern groove, Black Sheep is so huge and sexy it should be filed under “BBW” on a porn site, not “Rock ‘N’ Roll” on iTunes. It’s also a great start to a six-track EP that wastes no time in establishing Fizzy Blood as ones to watch.

January Sun blends a warm four-to-the-floor beat with raw Read more…

Bellevue Days – ‘Capability, Capacity’ [Review]

Bellevue Days

A filthy alt-rock track with spectacularly intense lyrics inspired by William S. Burroughs’ hard-hitting novel, Junkie? Count me in the “instant fucking fanboy” group for that one. Or, rather, this one. Read, listen, and look forward to Bellevue Days’ debut EP The Sun Came Up When We Were Young (due July 27).

Portico (ft. Jono McCleery) / Sea Stacks / Matt Emery [Live Review – The Boileroom, Guildford, 13/3/15]

portico press shotThis past Friday night, Guildford’s residents were offered a prime opportunity to catch three fascinating acts in the act of creating incredible music. It’s rare to experience a gig crammed this full of uncategorizable music – but then, the Boileroom isn’t your average venue. Kudos first has to go to the booking brains behind this show; that kind of talent isn’t Read more…

Live Review: Cavalier / Bridges / Red House Glory [Live Review – The Boileroom, Guildford, 25/2/2015]

Although I enjoyed Red House Glory‘s Foo Fighters-esque radio-friendly rock songs and decent vocal harmonies, and Bridges deserve recognition for their frontman’s emotive vocals and their unorthodox harmony guitars, I have a few things to get off my chest not only about Cavalier, but bands who come from a music-school background in general.

First off, I should say that I come from that background too – I did four years at ACM, and although when I put it that way it sounds like a prison sentence, it really Read more…
