Fizzy Blood – ‘Feast’ [Review]
Opening with eerie arpeggios reminiscent of Soundgarden at their best and tangentially kicking into a fat, strutting vintage-modern groove, Black Sheep is so huge and sexy it should be filed under “BBW” on a porn site, not “Rock ‘N’ Roll” on iTunes. It’s also a great start to a six-track EP that wastes no time in establishing Fizzy Blood as ones to watch.
January Sun blends a warm four-to-the-floor beat with raw guitars, wicked melody lines, and punchy rhythms. This is not a second-track letdown – not least when it kicks into heavier territory, following the overload with grungy shhh-FUCKIT dynamics and finally collapsing exhausted into static. Slither keeps things going, slick, stylish, and as detailed as a well-tailored suit; Cue To Leave hits deep with sharp-tongued lyrics, confident vocal harmonies, and grimly determined basslines (before earfucking you with more arena-ready heaviness); Patience is my personal favourite cut on the basis of its Queens Of The Stone Age vibe and exceptional rhythmic twists; and Queen Of Hearts goes all-in, finishing things off with still more high-energy, couldn’t-give-a-shit attitude.
This EP is fucking intense – and more than anything, it’s sure to get you wondering what these guys are like live…
