Julia Biel – ‘Licence To Be Cruel’ [Review]

Julia Biel

A great remix is a beautiful and rare thing. Now that the technology needed to mash up and rework the works of others is easily affordable, the number of people diving into the world of digitized sound manipulation has mushroomed.

Unfortunately, not everyone with a DAW and fancy plugins is an instant genius. Getting good at any art takes time – and on Licence To Be Cruel, five outstanding producers have taken four fine tracks from Julia Biel’s recent album Love Letters And Other Missiles and given them Read more…

Giacomo Pope – ‘Newness’ [Review]

Giacomo Pope

This seems to be the weekend for experimental electronica on TMMP. This time out, long-time favourite Giacomo Pope returns with some literally-titled Newness – a five-minute slice of ultra-chilled and wordless vibes complete with detailed layers and trademark synthesised warmth.

Giacomo Pope’s ability to make machine music breathe is a true talent. The perfect antidote to a long, stressful week. Read more…

Lu’Ami [Interview]

Lu'Ami The Better Project Kickstarter Concert Gig Live EP Review 2016

At 2000 Trees 2015, Lu’Ami’s past-midnight set, set deep in some on-site woods on the Forest Sessions Stage, was one of the highlights of the entire 80-act festival.

Better – the track you can hear at the end of this interview – was the highlight of that highlight.

Lu’Ami is a genuinely one-of-a-kind artist, melting down loop-based electronica and Read more…

Outside The Coma – ‘The Battle Of Being’ [Review]

Outside The Coma

Remember science class? Man, it was boring. Stuck staring at a textbook or a blackboard while the world’s most monotonic teacher droned on and on about everything from leaves to light.

You were interested in light, at least. Sunlight. The light from the sun shining outside, while you were kept out of it.

But one day, you got to experience something even cooler than escaping. You gathered around the teacher’s table with your friends, to watch a series of substances with arcane names go up in flames. Blinding lights; miniature explosions; the world’s most compact firework display.

After all the sleepy gloom that came before it, that lesson was imprinted on your memory forever. Even when it was over, you were still buzzing. Excited.

The Battle Of Being is just like that lesson. Read more…

Submotion Orchestra – ‘III’ [Review]

Submotion Orchestra

Since the release of third album Alium last year, Submotion Orchestra have become firm TMMP favourites. Their expensive-sounding and ultra-modern combination of dub, jazz, classical, soul, and electronic elements has soothed, calmed, stirred, and inspired an evangelical fanbase for the past six years. On this instrumental EP, a set of three precision-honed tracks, Submotion Orchestra show no signs of slowing down or holding back.

Whether you’re a dyed-in-the-wool muso, casually curious passer-by, or just Read more…

Why You Should F***ing Love Beardyman

Beardyman

UPDATE: TMMP has been reborn! This video has the full story:

Click here to subscribe for free on YouTube!

Some musicians are impossible to forget. They leave an indelible imprint on your memory, permanently branding their art on your brain. For TMMP, Beardyman is that kind of artist – and here are a few reasons why you, the open-minded, intelligent, and no doubt deeply attractive regular reader and boundary-free music fan, are more than a little likely to feel the same way:

He’s more than just a beatboxer.

Beardyman was the first beatboxer to win the UK Beatbox Championships two years in a row, and spent the time between the 2006 and 2007 championships honing his skills to the point of Jedidom. He was also the guy behind the Kitchen Diaries YouTube video, through which Beardyman has taken over five million viewers step by step through the birth of a sick break:

But Beardyman is no one-trick pony. While a quick stroll around central London will quickly yield a bunch of Read more…

Black Futures – ‘Love’ [Review]

Black Futures

If you’re a fan of flat-out-fucked electronica à la the Prodigy, you’ve either heard of Black Futures already (and love them), or you’ve never given them a listen and must do so immediately.

Love‘s video carries a warning (“FLASHING IMAGES – MAY CAUSE FEELINGS OF ELATION AND ECTASY”) for good reason, while the track itself features a Read more…

The Algorithm [Interview]

The Algorithm

Some artists have more than one calling. Maybe it’s graphic design, audio production, or accountancy. For Rémi Gallego, purveyor of progressive electronic insanity as the Algorithm, it’s definitely comedy.

You’re set to hit ArcTanGent 2015 this week. What’s going through your mind right now?

I really badly want to listen to Ricky Martin right now and I really hope he will secretly perform at ArcTanGent. Please tell me he will.

What can the curious expect from your set?

I can tell you what they can’t expect: Read more…

Seething Akira [Interview]

Seething Akira

Seething Akira are more than a badass name. They’ve spent the last couple of years pushing themselves in all directions, snapping up support slots with the likes of Hacktivist, Heart Of A Coward, Don Broco, Subsource, Sonic Boom Six, Skindred, and The Algorithm while working on a slowly growing set of winning recorded releases. Their latest, Airstrike, is out now, and reviewed on TMMP here. With the band swept up in a high-pressure post-release whirlwind, TMMP got them talking about their origin story, intimate tattoos, flying carpets, and Kanye West…

Your new single Airstrike is out now. How excited are you?

Our exciteometer is close to maximum! It’s been far too long since we’ve released new material, so we’re hyped to get it out there!

How would you describe your sound to an inebriated stranger?

Sweat-dance-core.

What’s Seething Akira’s origin story?

Charlie was producing hip-hop for artists around the world for a couple of years, but then decided he wanted to hit the stage and also create a hybrid style. After finding Kit as the vocalist on the Isle of Wight, they basically Read more…

Seething Akira – ‘Airstrike’ [Review]

Seething Akira

Seething Akira are a sick live band – and this tune always goes down explosively when they hit stages across the country.

A super-fat chrome-plated hybrid of metal and drum ‘n’ bass that fans of the sadly defunct Pendulum will find instantly addictive, Airstrike is guaranteed to snap Read more…
