Who are Nothing But Thieves? They’re one of the fastest-rising rock acts in the UK right now – and if you’ve never heard of them, stick with TMMP here as we list off five reasons why over the next year, you’re not going to be able to escape them…

They’re sitting on a shit-ton of anthems.

Nothing But Thieves don’t do small songs. From the mournful heartstring tugs of fan favourite Graveyard Whistling to Last Orders‘ spacious groove and guttingly direct lyrics and more recent cuts like the ultra-funky Ban All The Music, the sci-fi fuzz of Itch, and the none-more sexy Trip Switch, there’s no arguing quality-wise here. The worst you could reasonably say is it’s not your thing; if you’re set on slating NBT’s songwriting, you’re nothing more than a master of rectal Read more…

ArcTanGent 2015 [Festival Preview]

ArcTanGent

If you’re a regular TMMP reader, you appreciate the fact that the best music is created without boundaries. Although normal isn’t always boring, stepping outside your comfort zone is essential if you want to start adding the spice of variety to your life.

ArcTanGent has a stellar reputation for hosting bands whose music is free from everyday restraints. Common time signatures and orthodox melodies are a rarity at this UK-based festival, and progressively-minded pilgrims travel from far and wide to its south Bristol site to share their passions with likeminded others. This year, TMMP will be among them.

ArcTanGent’s core philosophy is respectable enough – but a quick glance at its lineup provides much to start salivating over. From big names like Cult Of Luna, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Deafheaven, 65daysofstatic and The Fall Of Troy to solid Read more…

KoMaRa (Feat. Pat Mastelotto) To Release Debut Album on 30th June [Feature]

KoMaRa

Although I’m normally against copying and pasting press releases, prog fans just need to hear this straight from the source:

KoMaRa:
Boundary-Breaking, Cinematic Industrial Ethno-Rock From
King Crimson’s Pat Mastelotto and Renowned Avant-Experimentalists David Kollar and Paolo Raineri

KoMaRa’s self-titled debut album is based on a dark, deviant and explicit detective story. It reflects the mysterious circumstances of an abduction and the ultimate demise of the abductee. It’s a NSFW, Rated-R release designed for the open-minded and brave. Unnerving, haunting artwork by Tool’s Adam Jones further underlines the album’s provocative vibe. Read more…

Marco Minnemann Set To Release New Album ‘Celebration’ [Feature]

Marco Minnemann

Long-time TMMP readers will remember Marco Minnemann’s solo album EEPS, which wound up becoming TMMP’s #2 album of the year in 2014. I waxed lyrical about that album’s sheer awesomeness here, and got chatting to Marco about EEPS, happiness, and the importance of good sex here. Now, Marco is set to release a brand new album, entitled Celebration, on June 1st.

Rest assured, Read more…

The Surrey Feminista Society [Special Feature]

surrey feminista societyAlthough it may seem unusual, indie music venues often host a wide range of alternative, non-musical events. Some are entertainment-focussed (comedy, spoken word and poetry evenings); some promote a variety of artistic pursuits (painting, sculpture, tattooing, etc); and others explore intellectually simulating topics via conversations and debates. Sometimes the above are combined with an educational component, enabling newcomers to a given field to get to grips with something intriguing yet alien to them.

Most of those options seem safe on paper, but intellectual conversations and debates can be a pretty intimidating proposition at the best of times. One would expect participation to require Read more…

Rage Against The Machine – ‘Rage Against The Machine’ [Special Feature]

rage agaisnt the machine debut cover albumOver 22 years since its release – and more than half a decade since Killing in the Name famously wiped the floor with X Factor pop puppet Joe McElderry – Rage Against The Machine’s ten-track debut remains as fierce and stirring as ever. This album is one of my very first musical loves – and it continues to be a regular soundtrack to my daily goings-on even in the face of the innumerable songs I’ve given time to while running TMMP.

At the start of 2015, Read more…
