Over the past couple of years, Nothing But Thieves have risen from underground up-and-comers to guaranteed stars in the making. On the evidence of last year’s eponymous debut album and a firecracker of a show at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town (not to mention support slots scored with the likes of Muse), Nothing But Thieves are set to become global household names by 2018 at the latest. I had a quick chat with NBT vocalist Conor Mason as his band look forward to a set of recently announced winter shows… Read more…

When I first heard In Dynamics’ second EP Questions back in 2014, I was floored. Few bands are that on it so early on in their recording careers. In Dynamics were a hot prospect then – and over the past two years they’ve been hard at work crafting this full-length alongside Chris Coulter, the production mind behind releases from Arcane Roots and Jamie Lenman.

Fans of the above and Biffy Clyro should probably get a bucket before listening to Everything I See, because they will be salivating for the duration – and nobody wants drool drying into their carpet Read more…

Over the past thirty-two years, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have carved a singular swathe through the musical jungle, strutting and preening like one of a kind wildlife. Unlike the majority of musicians so desperate to give off an air of idiosyncrasy, studiously cultivating an image in line with the trends of the times, the Chilis more than look the part. They walk the walk –and that is an undeniable fact Read more…

UK: get ready for an Australian invasion. With their new album Hoops, The Rubens are patiently strutting their way toward world domination – and any blues- and soul-oriented rock fans whose ears get bent by those eleven tracks are likely to find themselves swept away.

Produced by a behind-the-board team boasting Grammy wins and collaborations with Lana Del Rey, Coldplay, and The Strokes, it’s little surprise that Hoops sounds as big, flavourful, and vital as it does. Check out my full review here, and read on for an in-depth chat with The Rubens… Read more…

With Hoops, Australian chart-toppers The Rubens have penned an instant classic breakup album. Infusing a fuzzy rock foundation with plenty of soul and drenching the whole thing in organs galore, each song on Hoops sees The Rubens illuminate a different point on the journey from the beginning to the end of the end and beyond:

Hallelujah: A worldly and cynical “son of a gun” hopes to be saved by a heavily intellectual girl.

The Night Is On My Side: Hoops’ main protagonist struggles to keep his emotional distance while spending the night with Read more…

If you’re a UK-based rock, metal, and/or punk fan, you need to be at Camden Rocks Festival this year. The lineup is fucking ear-watering, totalling 200 bands performing live and in your face over the course of one single day and multiple London venues.

At the time of writing, 80 bands still have yet to be announced – but of those we do know about, here are seven of my personal favourites:

SikTh

As any self-respecting tech-metal fan knows, SikTh are absolutely sick. Returning to shatter minds after an extended split via a series of rapturously received reunion shows and last December’s awe-inspiring Opacities, SikTh are continuing to Read more…

Watching a band get big feels great when you know they really deserve it. There’s no doubt that Nothing But Thieves have put the time in and then some – and last night, they kicked off their latest UK tour in front of a rammed 2,300-capacity O2 Forum.

It went pretty well.

I remember seeing Nothing But Thieves play a small-scale set in Guildford back in the day – and at the Forum, they were greeted like the Proper Rock Stars they’re finally becoming. From Read more…

Not many musicians can say they’ve been in the game for close to half a century – but Rick Nielsen is one of the rare few who have made it. Over the past several decades, Nielsen has driven the streamlined musical sports car named Cheap Trick through a bewildering string of twists and turns to arrive in 2016 with a new album, Bang Zoom Crazy…Hello!

Bang Zoom Crazy…Hello! happens to be Cheap Trick’s seventeenth studio album – and that is Read more…

Panic At The Disco – ‘Death Of A Bachelor’ [Review]

Panic At The Disco - Death Of A Bachelor

Panic At The Disco have long been synonymous with sexy, sensual, and theatrical pop-rock-or-just-pop-I-can’t-quite-tell. From stomping grooves to synth-heavy production, ecstatic vocals, the occasional tasty guitar riff, and a heaped helping of just-fuck-me-already attitude, Panic At The Disco have already proven to the world that they have what it takes to entertain and beguile massive crowds of pleasure-seekers.

Of course, success brings haters, people eager to tear others down, often simply because they just don’t get it. To be honest, in Panic At The Disco’s early days, I always shrugged my shoulders and Read more…
