Therapy? – ‘Tides EP’ [Review]

Therapy - 'Tides EP' (Review)

Over the course of the past 26 years, Therapy? have been renowned for diving deep into the darkest recesses of the human mind, and returning with musical treasures aplenty.

2015’s Disquiet – listed as one of TMMP’s albums of the year – was a hard-rocking winner, crammed with Read more…

Figures – ‘Filter’ [Review]

Figures - Filter

Incubus. Tool. A Perfect Circle. Three of the greatest alt-rock/metal acts of all time. And key influences on Filter, the upcoming single release from the Australian underground jawbreakers known as Figures.

You could easily count me in just on the above alone – but throw in socially conscious lyricism addressing the social media attention sink and an inevitably impeccable mixing job by Karnivool über-producer Forrester Savell, and Read more…

Skunk Anansie – ‘Anarchytecture’ (Album Review)

Skunk Anansie Anarchytecture

After the recent loss of David Bowie, the rock world needs all the unique and exciting oddness it can get. With Anarchytecture – their third album since reforming in 2009 – Skunk Anansie continue to contribute exactly that.

Although rock is the dominant flavour present on Anarchytecture, there are plenty of extra spices floating in the mix. Skin’s vocal is, as always, unmistakable – and curious listeners can expect a healthy helping of dub vibes and electronic elements alongside the big riff monsters and vulnerable ballads that tick Read more…

In Dynamics – ‘We Are Liars’ [Review]

In Dynamics

On We Are Liars – a knockout punch delivered with grace by a rock-solid fist – In Dynamics seem set on getting people excited about their upcoming debut album.

Well, it’s definitely working at this end. Fuck me. Gut-wrenching words; huge riffs; a sky-high chorus hook…this is really all you should need!

Turn up the volume, press Read more…

Kerbdog [Interview]

Kerbdog

TMMP’s 2000 Trees Interview Onslaught continues with Cormac Battle, vocalist/guitarist for rock legends Kerbdog…

You’re playing 2000 Trees this year. How’re you feeling about it right now?

Very excited. We play quite rarely (our drummer lives in Dubai for God sake!), so to leave our lives for a brief period to become rock stars at 2000 Trees is properly fucking brilliant.

What can the curious expect from your set?

A heart-pounding set of songs that the Foo Fighters wish they had written.

What happened at the first show you ever played?

Not a lot really. There were more people onstage than in the venue – and that included our friend with a deep fat fryer making chips and handing them out to the punters at the front of the stage. We were truly awful.

You’ve been around for a while! What lessons have you learnt about playing live over the course of so many shows?

8 cans before going onstage just doesn’t work.

If there is no barrier [in front of] the stage, stay as far away from Read more…

Tellison [Interview]

Tellison

In the latest instalment of TMMP’s 2000 Trees Interview Overload, Tellison talk gigs on skateramps, DIY challenges, and the side effects of brown liquor consumption…

You’re playing a set at 2000 Trees this year. What thoughts and feelings are going through your heads right now?

Right now we’re juggling a thousand things in our heads. There’s a lot to sort out before releasing an album (our new one comes out this summer) and we’re a pretty DIY band, so we’re the ones doing the sorting. There are videos and singles and artwork and rehearsals and posters and sets and equipment repairs and vans and merchandise and websites and photos and a hundred other small bits to try to line up neatly so everything comes out on time and looking right.

It is exciting though, once you’ve waded through a thousand emails. 2000 Trees has been very good to us over the years, so we’re looking forward to Read more…

Goan Dogs [Interview]

Goan Dogs

With 2000 Trees Festival on the horizon, TMMP talked to desert rockers Goan Dogs – starting with a very serious question…

First off, I need you to help me settle a debate: What the hell is “desert rock”, anyway?

Music for people to rock out to in any desert. So, no idea really. Once upon a time, The Desert Sessions and Tinariwen used to seep into our music though, and we just kept using the phrase. It’s tiring thinking of new descriptions when the music keeps evolving.

You’re due to play 2000 Trees 2015. Do you have anything special planned for your set?

In a word, yes. Over the last year we have been writing and scrutinising our new material with legendary producer Read more…

Bridges [Interview]

Bridges

You learn a new thing every day – and BRIDGES are about to reveal something immense here. Consider me educated. Oh, and these guys are playing a festival too…

You’re due to play 2000 Trees this year. How’re you feeling about it?

Excited. We played last year on the Forest Stage, and it was awesome. We spent the day hanging out listening to music in hammocks and played a late night set to a really good crowd of people.

What can the curious expect from your set?

Bellevue Days – ‘Capability, Capacity’ [Review]

Bellevue Days

A filthy alt-rock track with spectacularly intense lyrics inspired by William S. Burroughs’ hard-hitting novel, Junkie? Count me in the “instant fucking fanboy” group for that one. Or, rather, this one. Read, listen, and look forward to Bellevue Days’ debut EP The Sun Came Up When We Were Young (due July 27).

The Xcerts / Heyrocco / Glass City Vice [Live Review – The Boileroom, Guildford, 10/4/2015]

The Xcerts

The Boileroom know how to put on a proper rock show. Support acts Glass City Vice and Heyrocco were a perfectly balanced pair, the former opening the night with tight, polished, and excellent pop rock/punk vibes, and the latter going full-throttle into heavy, rough-edged grunge territory. With plenty of fans in attendance from the off, it was obvious that both supports came equipped with their own hardcore fanbases, who were eager to get involved. Very cool.

The connection that The Xcerts have with their fans is absolutely Read more…
