Dani Rosenoer – ‘Basement Jams 2 EP’ [Review]
As we saw last December, Dani Rosenoer thinks differently. So, for this review, so will I. I’m going to attempt to sum up each track on Basement Jams 2 in a single sentence. Let’s see how it goes…
Whoa Whoa Yeah
A rich blend of processed vocals, distorted instrumentation, and multiple genres (from lilting acoustica to bouncy electronics) entering the ears at once.
Dirty Human History (Feat. Truezt)
Alt-pop meets hip-hop, delivered with class and panache.
Shut Down (Feat. Oliver Pigott)
Lush and emotive rock ballad best played LOUD at sunset.
I Hate Stuff (Feat. Boris Giller)
Anti-materialistic rap; falling-down-the-stairs vocal rhythms; one hell of a hook. Highlight of the EP. Ok, so this makes two – now three – sentences, but it needed saying.
PsyCoPath – Bittersweet (Dani Rosenoer remix)
Thick synths and a heavy alt-metal arrangement bordering on bouncy prog.
Grapevine
Synthetic polyrhythms and warped vocals à la Beardyman.
A Horny Ghost Named Buster (Feat. Alexey Dolgansky)
Disturbing and filthy Zappa-on-crystal-meth insanity; cheeky horns; Rob Zombie-esque vocals; thank God for semicolons.
E Minor Song
A whole tone away from the saddest of all keys, but still a haunting piece of solo piano work containing shades of Danny Elfman and Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess.
Overall: This is more of an experience than an EP – and one you need to get started on immediately. Stunning and rapturous in equal measure.
