Alter Bridge are unstoppable. Over the past twelve years, Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips have won the hearts and minds of legions of fans and critics alike. Alter Bridge’s formidable reputation precedes them; they deliver, over and over again.

The Last Hero continues one of the hottest winning streaks in modern rock.

This album is all about leadership and outstanding contributions to society, its tracks fuelled by a keen sense of social awareness as well as that undying rock ‘n’ roll fire. Show Me A Leader is an eloquently anguished cry, sharing a view held by millions worldwide – that now more than ever, we need our leaders to stick to their guns and improve our world, not just their own bank balances. The songs that follow lay the blame for the world’s ills at deserving feet while calling for leaders-in-waiting and everyday people alike to find the courage to stand up for what they believe in – and said songs are as epic and emotionally intense as they are numerous.

Politics is personal – and Alter Bridge are fully aware of that fact, Myles Kennedy turning inwards on the ass-kicking Cradle To The Grave before asking more timely questions throughout Losing Patience. Such questions are universally held in the minds of all sane individuals right now: Is the world screwed, or does a solution exist? Can we make what we need a reality? Will it work? How will we know, if we never try?

The Last Hero is full of big questions – and the music, naturally, is equally monolithic. This is Alter Bridge we’re talking about, after all – jawbreaking riffs, stomping grooves, white-hot vocals, and utterly terrifying guitar work is what they’re all about, and they don’t hold back for a second. Highlight-wise, I offer you the whole damn thing; there’s not a single weak spot on here.

Overall: Perfection. Calling The Last Hero anything less would be as ridiculous as the state politics is in right now.

TMMP RATING: 100% (Essential Listening!)
