For those of you looking to get into a metal band headed for big things, look no further for now than Karybdis. A couple of months on from the release of new album Samsara (reviewed in full here), I caught up with Karybdis for a brief chat…

Your new album Samsara is about to see the light of day. What thoughts and feelings are going through your heads right now?

We were very excited during the release of the album. We had put so much time and effort into it that it was quite a relief in the end!

What was your creative process while writing and recording Samsara?

We met every week to rehearse and write. People would bring ideas, or nearly completed songs, and the others would add their say to the song.

Since we all love writing together, songs don’t happen instantly, and tend to sit on a back burner once they are completed – only to be re-visited again at a later date and changed a bit more!

How have you evolved, as musicians and as people, over the course of creating Samsara?

Absolutely. We have grown better at writing with each other, and we have found a kindred spirit in the form of our new guitarist Matt Lowry, whose style compliments us perfectly.

We are very excited to continue writing together and to see how our music further develops.

Is there a spiritual element to what you do?

Yes. Rich’s lyrics are something that continue to amaze the rest of us. Some of them are very personal and spiritual.

Beyond the album release, what do you have planned for the remainder of 2016?

We play the music, and hope to play the music to as many people as possible!

Cheers for taking the time to do this!

Thank you for featuring us!
