Good Tiger [Interview]
Who says interviews have to be super serious? Behold these beautiful answers from Good Tiger’s own Morgan Sinclair…
You successfully crowdfunded your album A Head Full Of Moonlight seriously quickly – and now you’re working with Blacklight Media and Metal Blade Records. What thoughts and feelings are floating around the Good Tiger camp right now?
There’s a lot of ambiguity surrounding how much the human mind thinks. Some scientists argue that we process somewhere between 60,000 and 80,000 thoughts a day – so honestly, we’re all thinking many, many different things.
I’ve been thinking about doughnuts a lot today. We do think the same things sometimes though, like, “Isn’t this label involvement great? It was so awesome that we were able to raise all that money through crowdfunding! The album seems to be going down a treat! We’re so happy!”
How did Good Tiger come to be? What’s your X-Men-style origin story?
Derya and Joaquin were both looking to join a powerful team of super-mutants after their old band broke up.
Naturally, they needed someone with shape-shifting abilities, so they got in touch with Elliot.
Alex was drafted in to be the Cyclops of the team, because he often touches his ear in the same way Cyclops touches his temple to activate the laser beam stuff.
I have a hairy back, like Beast. I pretend to read books too, though most of the time I’m just playing Nintendo.
We were also all friends, so it all fell into place very naturally.
How did you evolve, as musicians and as people, over the course of creating A Head Full Of Moonlight?
Prior to the creation of the record, some of us hadn’t spent a whole lot of time with each other. I knew Dez and Jo very well, but Elliot and Alex were fairly new friends.
I like to think we all evolved together, and just became much better friends through it all. We also learned so much about each other as musicians, which will make the creation of album two a very different experience.
What was your creative process while writing and recording A Head Full Of Moonlight?
We all got together, recorded a whole album of Little Richard covers, realised it wasn’t the direction we wanted to take, and proceeded to write and record A head Full Of Moonlight.
You’re currently touring the US; what’s the craziest thing that’s happened at one of your shows so far?
Somebody did a backflip in the crowd in Spokane, that was pretty crazy I suppose.
We’re not the traditional, throw everything in the air and hope for the best, drink 100 beers kind of band, so honestly, apart from that backflip, it’s been pretty smooth. I haven’t dropped a plectrum yet; that would definitely be noteworthy.
If money and good taste weren’t issues, what would your stage show look like?
A lot like Rammstein’s. Lots of sex.
You’ve got a lot going on right now; what do you have planned for the rest of 2016?
We recently started writing album two, which we’re really excited about. In addition to that, we’ll be playing lots more, touring lots, and looking for Magneto…
