The Bellerophon Project – ‘Mental Abscess’ [Review]
The Bellerophon Project certainly know how to pack every last microsecond with something, whether it be hyper-distorted, none-more-syncopated riffage, elegantly soaring synthetic layers, jazzy and serene clean tones, or even – on occasion – silence. These guys are nothing if not generous; you get the sense that if it were possible for more stuff to be crammed in here without resulting in a mess of unmusical wankery or inducing brain haemorrhages in all but the hardiest of listeners, it would be.
Instead of going completely OTT, Mental Abscess contains exactly enough notes and beats – nothing feels out of place, and it’s obvious that if you were to remove even a single riff or drum fill, this EP’s impact would be significantly affected. A common complaint about this kind of music is that it “all just sounds random” – but anyone who knows knows that precisely the opposite is the case. The Bellerophon Project have, quite obviously, invested a massive amount of time into crafting this release, focussing on each section with laser-like intensity. The attention to detail is second to none, and by the end you just have to ask: How the hell is this possible?! Every bar was clearly designed by a pair of deeply intelligent and well-informed musical minds – and what’s more, the total package is available for a mere one euro.
Seriously; a single euro. Just buy it, for God’s sake.

W-O-W! This is a really good find for me! I listened to Hydra and it blew my mind… It is funny how just today I was complaining how some of the music is getting worse and worse… how films and books are losing substance… and BANG! Here is this great link to some great creation! Thanks!
Thank you!
