Eryn Non Dae: ‘Meliora’ [Review]

eryn_non_dae-cover_webRaw. Relentless. Brutally bludgeoning. Sound like your kind of thing? Then read on…

Although the hairy swells of opener Chrysalis might lull you into a dreamlike stupor, you’d do well to keep your wits about you as you progress through Meliora‘s many twists and turns. A relentless roller coaster of unpredictable progressive death metal in the vein of Between The Buried And Me mixed with Tool, and backed up by Mars Volta style jazzy virtuoso drumming, Meliora is an album to get one hundred percent irretrievably misplaced within.

Although the sensations such an experience brings about for tech-prog newbies is likely to be disorientating and alienating at first, these feelings inevitably dissipate with time, to be replaced with an intense sense of wonder and fascination. Meliora is, essentially, a Stephen King horror epic in musical form. Technically impressive, compositionally dense, emotionally upheaving, and well worth a listen for the curious and dedicated alike.
