A Joker’s Rage: ‘The Masquerade’ [Review]

Despite having been a band for barely over a year, A Joker’s Rage have already coalesced into an enviably professional outfit capable of unleashing a pro-level rock / metal onslaught that marks them as newcomers to watch very, very closely. Stealing tricks from Avenged Sevenfold, Motley Crüe, Atreyu, G ‘n’ R, and every other famous sleaze-rock band walking God’s green earth and adding their own extra theatrical spice into the mix, A Joker’s Rage are in stunning form on this EP.
From the opening bar of the title track it’s clear that these boys have put the time in – solid walls of sound, washes of guitar, a pristine production job, a Tom Morello-style solo on second track ‘Release You’, tortured / anguished / sexual lyrics that Vince Neil would be proud to have penned, tight-as-a-very-tight-thing instrumental work, some excellent Middle Eastern vibes on fourth track ‘Killing Time’ – the plus points just keep on coming the longer you play this EP. It even stands up to repeated listening, with each new hearing revealing some hidden detail and depth.
In a word: awesome. Just awesome.
