Rolo Tomassi – ‘Grievances’ [Review]

Rolo Tomassi

Four albums into their career, you might expect Rolo Tomassi to chill things out and give themselves a breather for once. But have they?

…Kind of, actually.

Grievances gets going with Estranged, an idiosyncratically Tomassi amalgam of hectic skin-beating barrages, stabbing and churning guitars, and a relatively low-key section that brings to mind dark alleys and glistening knives rather than sunshine and fluffiness. Raumdeuter takes Read more…

F.O.E.S. [Interview]

F.O.E.S.

F.O.E.S. are a mix of Deftones, Karnivool, and Arcane Roots – and if that doesn’t sound like a sick combo to you, then go take a long hard look in the mirror and think about how badly society has failed you. F.O.E.S.’ new EP Antecedence is absolutely stunning – and with just less than a month to go before it’s out, TMMP got talking to guitarist Joe Danher about the new release, hunger, and hat disasters… Read more…

2000 Trees

Since 2007, 2000 Trees has evolved into one of the UK alternative music scene’s most treasured institutions. Combining a fiercely independent ethos with a super-positive DIY attitude and the backing of many brilliant musicians, this festival is not one to miss. F.O.E.S. – ‘Antecedence’ [Review]

F.O.E.S.

Show me a band who are one third Deftones, one third Karnivool, and one third Arcane Roots, and I’ll show you a band I’ll happily rave about until the end of time. F.O.E.S. (aka Fall Of Every Sparrow) may have an awkward name, but their music is fucking incredible. They’ve definitely found the fast track to instant approval at this end.

Antecedence kicks in in style with Rival Thrones – an immediate and crystal-clear nod in the direction of Chino Moreno & co. that merges massive, churning riffs with epic Read more…

We Never Learned To Live [Interview]

We Never Learned To Live

When it comes to post-apocalyptic post-hardcore, We Never Learned To Live know their shit. On June 22, their debut album Silently, I Threw Them Skyward will be fully get-your-hands-onable – and trust me. It. Is. Immense.

TMMP caught up with WNLTL vocalist Sean Mahon to dig into the band’s origin story, the creative process behind the new album, and a load more besides…

Your new album Silently, I Threw Them Skyward is coming out this month. What’s the general feeling in the WNLTL camp right now?

We are really, really excited. We have all played in bands now (together and otherwise) for nearly eight years, but this is the first full-length album any of us have ever recorded. It’s given us a chance to express ourselves on a larger Read more…

Pulo Revé – ‘The ÉP’ [Review]

Pulo Revé

Pulo Revé may be the most underground of underground concerns right now, but once you come into contact with their soundwaves, you will find them unignorable. A hectic and left-of-centre blend of post-hardcore brutality, DEP-influenced hypersyncopated complexity, and intelligent lyrics often Read more…

Slam Dunk Festival 2015 [Festival Review]

Slam Dunk

From the outside, alternative music festivals can seem intimidating. Certain corners of the media choose to portray alternative music fans as universally antisocial and self destructive. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth.

Festivals are full of people out for nothing more than a good time. Great bands, passionate fans, and meticulous organisation are all essential pieces of the puzzle – and Slam Dunk’s organisers provided the former and latter. In Wolverhampton, everybody won.

Behind black t-shirts and often morbid iconography, the themes of the day were love, respect, and gratitude. Second stage openers Shvpes set the tone with a rapturously received hometown set packed full of Read more…

We Never Learned To Live – ‘Silently, I Threw Them Skyward’ [Review]

We Never Learned To Live

First things first. Arrangement- and mixing-wise, this album is fucking awesome. It seems like post-hardcore fans have plenty of bleak, grim albums to get stuck into this summer – and Silently, I Threw Them Skyward is among the best of them so far. Ominous, haunting, and unrelentingly foreboding, this could easily work as the soundtrack to a 28 Days Later-style horror movie. It really is a journey.

“Post-apocalyptic post-hardcore” isn’t a genre yet – but it’s the most Read more…

The Decoy [Interview]

The Decoy

Sometimes a new discovery blows your mind in the best way possible. Welsh prog mentalists the Decoy certainly did that with their new EP Parasites, due out on May 25 via Ghoulish Records and sure to get you wondering what the fuck just happened when it finally beats on your eardrums. For this interview, there was only one way to begin…

Your new EP Parasites is a real mindfuck – so I have to open with a horribly clichéd question: Who are your influences? Where do those ideas come from?!

Joel (Williams, bass/vocals): Difficult question! We all have Read more…

Blood Youth [Interview]

Blood Youth

Blood Youth have been through a lot over the last year, from the dissolution of previous project Climates, and the introduction of vocalist Kaya Tarsus, to gutting relationship issues. TMMP got chatting to Kaya and Sam Bowden (guitar) in advance of the June 22 release of brand new EP Inside My Head (reviewed on TMMP here)…

Your new EP, Inside My Head, is set to drop soon. How’re you feeling right now?

Kaya: We’re all feeling really good right now! Theres a very positive atmosphere in the Blood Youth camp right now. We cant wait for Read more…
