Sithu Aye – ‘Senpai EP’ [Review]

Sithu Aye - Senpai EP

Since I travelled to Paris to see THE END, an opera starring Japanese virtual pop idol Hatsune Miku, Japanese-culture-related music has been thin on the ground here at TMMP. Enter Sithu Aye and an EP that began as a joke, but wound up becoming seriously awesome.

Senpai (in English, someone who will never notice you) is one of the happiest, most upbeat instrumental guitar releases I’ve heard in a long time. It practically oozes the passion, love, warmth and excitement that have been poured into it – and more than that, it’s just plain fun to listen to. It’s a welcome reminder that life and art don’t always have to be taken super-seriously.

Sithu Aye is the king of fine details. You can hear it in the gracefully tasty licks that dance and pout and pounce throughout Senpai, not to mention the pristine production job – and with the addition of Japanese translations for each track, the package is complete. Senpai is the kind of cultural crossover that fits among the best the Internet has to offer.

TMMP RATING: 91%

Was this review on the money or off the mark? Can you recommend a place for me to re-start my anime education? Do you think Sithu Aye should write a song with Hatsune Miku on vocals? Leave a comment, follow TMMP via Twitter and my brand new Facebook pageand let me know!
