Cambion – ‘Virus (Extended Edition)’ [Review]
Katana-sharp guitar tones, throat-scarring vocals, über-polished production, one-click kicks, punchy nut-tight polyrhythms and searing solos – all are present and correct on Virus, an eight-stage set of immense tech-metal tracks. It’s unlikely your grandmother will warm to the djent-ridden, Fear-Factory-and-Meshuggah-influenced brutality which permeates most of Virus‘s running time (unless you have a badass grandmother), but fans of the aforementioned two groups of metal titans will get a hefty kick out of it all.
Highlights? There are a lot – Cambion seem in possession of a bottomless bag of labyrinthine riffs and beats – but for TMMP, Afterlife and early single Mechanics of Extinction stand out nicely. Check out the (NSFW) video for the latter below, and start getting excited for all that is still to come…
