Nine Black Alps – ‘Live From The Wishing Well’ [Review]
If you’re looking for a band with a live sound as full as the Pope’s ballsack, look no further. Nine Black Alps have forged a fine reputation for punching out streams of grungy alt-rock songs with an impressive consistency – and Live from the Wishing Well contains no fewer than 16 tunes delivered with a pure yet raw, fiery and passionate energy.
Burn Faster kicks things off with frenzied abandon – and Nine Black Alps continue burning for the duration of a near-hour-long full-career retrospective set. Slamming through the likes of new TMMP favourite tune Buy Nothing; the immensely heavy Patti; recent release Supermarket Clothes; and the full-tilt epicness of Heavier Than Water on the way to crowd favourite Unsatisfied and the climactic Shot Down, Nine Black Alps come across as a band with something to prove. If that was the case, whatever these guys set out to prove has definitively been proven; based on these undoctored sixteen songs, Nine Black Alps just can’t be faulted.
