Imagine a musical four-corner cage match involving Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, Periphery, and Enter Shikari. The results would be fucking chaotic – and they’d likely also sound a lot like Cabin Boy Jumped Ship.

Cabin Boy Jumped Ship aren’t looking to play sardines within an already cramped scene. They’re not trying to live up to someone else’s expectations, or following in others’ footsteps. Listening to Pathways – an EP crammed with dirty riffage, hectic beats, hyperkinetic electronics, and plenty of pitch-corrected vocals mixed into a gritty production job amongst brutal screams of the highest order – it’s plainly clear that Cabin Boy Jumped Ship couldn’t give a fuck what any potential haters may think.

More than anything else, that’s exactly what I look for in music – and if your mind operates along similar lines, Pathways is worth checking out.

Hearing a band carve out their own niche is always an exhilarating experience – and on Dead Ends, The New World Order, Pathways And Promises, Waste Away, and Replace The Hate, that’s exactly what’s going on. The end result is just plain fun, an EP that manages to be both crushing and uplifting at the same time. Keep an eye on Cabin Boy Jumped Ship; these guys know their shit, and they’re destined for big things.

TMMP RATING: 93% (Essential Listening!)
