Glass City Vice [Interview]

Glass City Vice

Glass City Vice are a band on the rise, having supported the likes of You Me At Six and heading down to 2000 Trees 2015 to rock it hard. TMMP talked to GCV about the festival, their origin story, and Spinal Tap..

You’re playing a set at 2000 Trees this year. How’re you feeling about it?

Super excited! We are playing the stage that is nestled in the woods, which looks really cool. If the weather holds out it should be a pretty cool setting. It’s wicked to be on a bill with so many great bands as well.

How did Glass City Vice first get together?

We all met at university in Brighton. We hadn’t really heard each other play, but [it] was more of a mutual love for the same music. We have all grown up a lot since then, and it’s almost a different band now!

What happened at your first ever gig?

We played some songs, none of which we play now. It was a pretty busy room though! I don’t really remember anything bad happening, so think it went well!

What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened at a Glass City Vice show?

Ummm…we played a big show the other day and it was ridiculously hot! People kept passing out in front of us as we were playing. I kept wanting to stop and ask if they were ok.

If money were no object and good taste wasn’t an issue, what would your stage set look like?

Maybe re-create the Stonehenge scene in This Is Spinal Tap?

Which other 2000 Trees bands are you looking forward to checking out?

Alkaline Trio will be sweet; I’m intrigued to see Deaf Havana as I know they have been away for a while, so will be cool to hear some new stuff; Idlewild’s new album is a banger so that will be good! Get Inuit, The Xcerts, Fatherson. Loads to look forward to!

Beyond the festival, what do you have planned for the rest of the year?

Just more festivals really – and a potential tour later in the year. We have taken our sweet time with new material so we want to get that out ASAP really. It’s been a wicked year so far and we are having so much fun as a band, so we just want that to continue really.

If you had to pick just one moment as a highlight of your journey so far, which would it be?

We had our biggest headline show at The Haunt in Brighton the other day. Even though Brighton is our hometown, it’s been a pretty tough nut to crack and this was a real step up for us as a band. We came out on a total high.

What’s on your bucket list?

Just to play Brixton Academy would be wicked – but like I said this year has brought us many surprises that we are totally psyched about. So as long as that keeps happening and we are having fun, then we aren’t complaining.
