Marcus Rexford – ‘Sounds From A Bedroom Window’ [Review]
When I reviewed Marcus Rexford’s Exposure EP last January, I found myself on the fence about it. This time around, though, I have nothing critical (in the sense of expressing disapproval) to say about his Sounds from a Bedroom Window mixtape. It is totally sublime, stuffed full of choice moments, brilliant songcraft, stellar musicianship, and masterful production touches.
Rexford’s John Mayer influence is still present, but it’s now been assimilated into an artistic character that is more than the sum of its parts. Expert-level guitar, a beautifully expressive vocal, and the always-welcome Incubus vibe which permeates I’ll Try beyond the two-minute mark…these are but three reasons to love this release. It feels like Marcus Rexford the idiosyncratic artist is finally arriving – and it’s been worth the wait.
