Fine Fine Titans – ‘Ellipsis’ [Review]

fine fine titansWhen checking out a female-fronted band, it can often be hard to focus on the music. Frankly, in such situations it’s common for everything except the vocalist’s makeup to suck horrifically. After all, it’s a sad (if unsurprising) fact that sex appeal sells – and many acts aren’t above milking said time-honoured marketing ploy until it’s dry, shrivelled, and flaccid.

Thank god, then, that Fine Fine Titans are above that bullshit.

Ellipsis is a great song. Yes, there’s a bit of sexualised vocal work in there, and Jennifer Bartlett’s hair is very cool – but beyond that there’s a wicked performance forthcoming from every musician involved. Every element fits together perfectly – the unmistakable result of driven and talented teamwork. It would be so easy for Fine Fine Titans to take the easy route (“Look – our vocalist has boobs! Try not to stampede already!”), but they don’t. There’s just too much badassness for one video in here, and I’m damn sure won over by the musicianship alone.

The talent this band has is so fun to watch. From their music videos, interviews and live shows there is never a dull moment watching this band grow. There is a special kind of art with their music videos, never giving in to social pressures of over glamorizing. The videos depict a beautiful story with the lyrics. I look forward to more from the Fine Fine Titans!!
