Natives – ‘Indoor War’ [Review]

natives indoor warOne of the fun things about keeping an open mind is that things can always change. This is especially important when it comes to life as a music fan; many listeners have a tendency to adopt strict rules and set-in-stone fundamentalist attitudes toward “The stuff I like” and “All the rest of it”. It’s no surprise, then, that so many people claim to be bored when it comes to music; but this just doesn’t have to be so.

At TMMP, we make a point of not doing things the locked-in-stone way. So even if an act doesn’t make a great first impression on us, we’re happy to look deeper and give them a second chance.

Indoor War is a great example of the benefits that can be reaped from thinking this way. Had we written Natives off after seeing them live recently, we’d never have discovered these tracks. They’re an impressively well-crafted set of pop-rock tunes with elements of 30 Seconds To Mars – a band that nobody with a beating heart can truly claim to hate. Epicness abounds on this eleven-tracker, and whether you like your rock poppy or not, the clear effort, professionalism, and commercially-inclined, determined focus is hard not to be affected by.

Tenth track and single release Ghost is the perfect example of how to do radio-friendly pop-rock right. Check it out below, listen via Spotify, and get involved via Natives’ online outlets if you think your summer needs a fresh soundtrack.
