CeCe – ‘Framework EP’ [Review]

ceceI’ve said this before, but it’s always worth repeating: If your music would fit into a Tarantino or Rodriguez soundtrack, I’m going to love your music.

CeCe’s Framework EP definitely fits this bill.

Little Bit Longer grows from delicate acoustic strokes to a fully cinematic arrangement full of brilliant background touches, then dies away far before its welcome is outstayed. A constant-repeat-worthy track.

These Four Walls continues in a similar vein, but takes a more laid-back, slow and careful approach. Shades of Radiohead and Muse are present and more than welcome, along with rough-edged strings and a truly epic vocal.

Poison sounds like Ennio Morricone on a winning creative streak: Melancholy lyrics set to a beautifully-contoured melody, a great chorus hook, and still more detailed and nuanced production.

Final track Glamorous Decay is one of the best-mixed vocal-and-guitar performances I’ve probably ever heard. A dynamically moving song provided with awesome backing vocals, just enough reverb, and a hint of dirty-vinyl needle noise.

My first impulse on reaching the end of this EP was to stick it on repeat – even though I have a whole list of other things to do and releases to review. However, what I’m losing in productive output I’m more than gaining in happiness. Press play and see if you feel the same way.
