The Swears: ‘Europa’ [Review]

After battering my brain with progressive music for my last two reviews, this album by The Swears comes as a welcome relief. Sometimes simplicity is just what you need. Layering perfectly positioned parts onto a set of epic songwriting frames, Europa is ideal lie-down-and-chill music fit for lounging lazily or taking a long, relaxing drive to nowhere in particular. You get all the usual indie-pop trappings here – slow and lilting guitars, sultry and seductive vocals, the occasional soaring synth, and a few well-timed moments of energetic dance-worthy beats that you can bet go over well live. If that’s what you’re into, this is a worthy (and free) addition to your collection.
