Over the past couple of years, Nothing But Thieves have risen from underground up-and-comers to guaranteed stars in the making. On the evidence of last year’s eponymous debut album and a firecracker of a show at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town (not to mention support slots scored with the likes of Muse), Nothing But Thieves are set to become global household names by 2018 at the latest. I had a quick chat with NBT vocalist Conor Mason as his band look forward to a set of recently announced winter shows…
You’re playing a short winter tour later this year. Do you have anything special planned for those shows?
Yes, we can’t wait! The venues are bigger, so we’re naturally amping things up a bit. We’ll be bringing in slightly more production and lighting, adding more songs and some new twists.
Your debut album’s been out for a while now; how do you feel about the reception it’s received so far?
Very happy with everything really. It’s served us well and we’re very proud to play it every night. I think it’s done what we needed to do and given “the world” a flavour of what we’re about and what’s to come.
If money and good taste weren’t issues, what would your stage show look like?
Ever seen the box office flop Waterworld?
How would you like to see the world change?
Quite a question shift there? Haha!
From the destruction that took place in 2015 from terrorist attacks, I’d like to see a world better educated on terrorism. I believe with money you can stop a terrorist attack; with education, you can stop terrorism. It was hard not to feel heartbroken all year round because of it. I hope the world changes in terms of this.
The winter tour aside, what do you have on your plates for the future?
We plan to record a new album early spring time. We don’t want to stop the momentum we have going, so it’s important to us to keep our music going.
