Bridges [Interview]

Bridges

You learn a new thing every day – and BRIDGES are about to reveal something immense here. Consider me educated. Oh, and these guys are playing a festival too…

You’re due to play 2000 Trees this year. How’re you feeling about it?

Excited. We played last year on the Forest Stage, and it was awesome. We spent the day hanging out listening to music in hammocks and played a late night set to a really good crowd of people.

What can the curious expect from your set?

Energy. Noise. Colourful socks.

How did BRIDGES come to be?

Ethan, Joe, and Henry have been playing together for a few years under different names, but it only really became serious when we played at Beach Break Live. We’d been booked for a fairly early slot so weren’t overly psyched about the turnout, but it just so happens that it was at the perfect time, everyone had just hit peak drunkenness and the heavens opened, pushing hundreds of drunk students into a small tent to see an unknown band.

The next day, we decided to take things seriously. Then Josh happened along and it just got better from there.

What happened at the first gig you ever played?

The first gig we played was an uneventful charity fundraiser at Joe and Henry’s old school, nothing fancy. But as BRIDGES, it was probably our first EP launch after Beach Break Live, which was a good show as I remember…

If money and good taste were not an issue, what would your stage show look like?

Smoke-bubbles. There is a machine that genuinely makes bubbles filled with smoke – that’s the dream. Also, confetti cannons.

What’s the most mental thing that’s ever happened at a BRIDGES show?

We’ve had some crowd surfing and stage-diving which is always fun. We had a PA blow the other week too – that led to the longest song intro ever, as we stalled during the reboot.

Beyond 2000 Trees, what’ve you got planned for the rest of 2015?

We have some other cool gigs and festivals, a trip to Ireland, and hoping to get some new material down in the studio – which is always a blast.

If you had to pick just a single moment as a highlight of your career to date, which would it be?

We were all pretty psyched about getting some 7” vinyl pressed recently. It’s something we’ve been looking forward to, and they seem to have been well received which is always a bonus.

What’s your biggest aspiration?

I’m not sure about our biggest; we’d like to get back to Glastonbury and play a full band set, as only Joe and Ethan made it there last time. More awesome festivals, more vinyl pressings; touring further afield into Europe would be fun too.
