Mutiny On The Bounty – ‘Digital Tropics’ [Review]

Mutiny On The Bounty

Before we get started, you need to watch this video:

If you loved that, this album is guaranteed to make you uncomfortably tumescent within about 0.73 seconds. Digital Tropics is crammed with no fewer than ten surprisingly danceable and irresistibly beautiful instrumental math rock pieces featuring everything from glittering melodic droplets to catnip riffs, seductive grooves, and music-as-martial-art ninja-grade musicianship. This is everything the discerning math fan could reasonably ask for.

If pushed, I’d pick Ice Ice Iceland as a personal highlight – but honestly, there’s not a dull or uninventive moment on Digital Tropics. Whether you’re talking about Telekenesis‘ chipper accessibility, Countach‘s combination of wild eyes and disciplined restraint, Strobocop‘s frenzied rampage, Fin de Siäcle‘s quirky and playful explorations, or the general awesomeness of Digital Tropics‘ remaining tunes, this album is a string of uncompromising winners. Just press play on the player below already!
