Hindsights – ‘Cold Walls/Cloudy Eyes’ [Review]
Ironic as it is, I have a real soft spot for grim and raw post-hardcore. With Cold Walls/Cloudy Eyes, Hindsights have hit said spot super-effectively. Crank up the volume, and you’ll be richly rewarded with perfectly-mixed guitar layers, sledgehammer-to-the-eardrums drums, alien atmospherics, and plenty of gripping riffage.
If there’s a downside to this album, it’s that it often feels formulaic – but it’s clear that these guys mean what they say and what they play, regardless of how many other current bands are taking exactly the same approach to self-expression. If you ask me, music should make you feel something – and winners like Out Of My Skull, Colour, Blind and Sore still feel dangerous despite a distinct sense of overfamiliarity. Fans of Hell Is For Heroes and co. will fucking love Hindsights – and despite some reservations, I’d still wholeheartedly recommend them.
